When I started to learn sanskrit, came across few interesting things about the roots of few English words.
1. Look -
This is from the sanskrit root "Lok", means "to see" and it also means "the world". The world is what we see. Similar to the Tamil word "Paar" means "to see" and also "the world".
2. For comparative and superlative we use greatER and geatEST. This is taken from sanskrit "Thara-Thama". eg: For Mahaan word comparative - "MahaththARA"/MaheYASI and "Mahaththama/MahISHTaha". Even though the spellings are different the sounds are similar.
ER - ARA, EST - ISHT.
3. For "paapa" there is an English word "Sin", but for "Punniya", there is no equivalent English word.
4. For plural "they" is used in snaskrit, in English the same spelling is used but we pronounce it as "dhey" not "they". Means "Th" is pronounced as "dh", in English.
5. "Three" is the same. "Dve" - "Two". The numbers of sanskrit, when used as "dates" or "thithis" there are little similarities. Saptha - seven - Sapthami - september. Nava - Nine - Navami - November. Dasa - ten - December.
