Bhagavad Gita, four yogas and seven levels

For Body, breath and mind (upadhees) regular sadhana is needed to control the Rajas and come out of Thamas and get into Sattva. So to be done daily. (Kriya yoga)

For intellect - knowledge is very very essential. So daily one should be in touch with the knowledge (Gnana Yoga)

For memory - to clear the chiththa one has to practice Seva. Selfless service. (karma yoga)

For Ego - One to be in satsang and surrender (Bhakti yoga)

7 levels - Body, breath, mind, intellect, memory, ego and self

4 yogas - Kriya yoga, Gnana yoga, Karma yoga and Bhakti yoga

Bhagavad gita talks about three gunas and how to manage them.

Connection between 8 and 4 for spiritual growth

Getting established in deep meditation will make one achieve the state of divine. Knowledge or Gnana yoga is the foundation for everything.

To get into the state one has to practice Ashtanga yoga regularly.

1. Yama - To protect one from impurities from outside

(Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya, Aparigraha)

2. Niyama - To practice daily to progress in the path

(Shaucha, Santosha, Tapas, Swadhyaya, Ishwarapranidhana)

3. Yoga Asana - Stabilizing the body

4. Pranayama - Controlling the breath (to settle the mind)

5. Prathiyahara - Taking mind inward (out of the senses)

6. Dharana - Getting the mind into one

7. Dhyana - Meditation (Getting into the thoughtless state)

8. Samadhi - Continuing in that thoughtless state

Along with the Ashtanga yoga, which is the kriya yoga, one has to

1. Practice karma yoga or selfless action (seva) to purify the chiththa. (To settle the mind in meditation)

2. Be in regular touch with Gnana yoga - which is the foundation of all the yogas. Because with knowledge only one can learn and practice kriya, Bhakthi and Karma yogas.

3. Practice Bhakthi yoga - To understand and experience the power of ever-pervading divine

All these put together will elevate one in the spiritual path which is the Adhyathmika growth.

Adhibhauthika - are the sorrows caused by the five elements. These are the problems/ailments in the body. (Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama can help)

Adhidaivika - are the sorrows caused by the unseen divine and demon powers. For this we have to surrender to the divine for protection. (Bhakthi yoga)

Adhyathika - are the sorrows caused by the internal faculties such as mind, intellect, memory & ego (Prathiyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi can help). Also regular knowledge can purify the intellect, Seva can purify the memory or chiththa and Bhakthi can purify the ego. All these by regular practice will help one to settle the mind slowly which will help one to achieve moksha

Applying 4 yogas based on Bhagavad gita

Karma or action is the ultimate. One cannot escape from action (Karma yoga)

One has to do the daily sadhana to balance the influence of 3 gunas in the work. (Kriya yoga)

1. Thamas - yoga stretches

2. Rajas - Pranayama, Sudharshan Kriya and breathing techniques

3. Sattva - Meditation

Starting the day with the daily sadhana and doing meditation to keep up the sattva is mandatory while doing the work.

Also the knowledge is to be applied for every action (Gnana yoga)

1. Not to desire for the fruit of action

2. Not to get deluded by the desire

3. Also not get attached to inaction

4. Give one's 100% in the work

5. Everything is done by the prakrithi. So drop the doer-ship.

Looking at the power of the divine which is omnipresent, one has to become humble and then do the action (Bhakti yoga)

1. Be grateful for whatever he has got and is experiencing

2. Be devoted to the ultimate

3. Have a complete surrender to the ultimate divine

Purpose of 4 yogas

Kriya yoga

If the mind is tied with the body - yoga

If the mind is tied with the breath - pranayama

If the mind is tied with the soul - meditation

Gnana yoga

If the mind is tied with the intellect - knowledge

(only with the proper knowledge, intellect can function better)

Karma yoga

If the mind is tied with the action which clears memory - Seva

Clearing of impression happens when we do seva, thoughts about oneself is gone and we start taking care of others. This clears the memory.

Bhakthi yoga

If the mind is tied with the ego - Satsang

Bhakthi or surrender to the ultimate

Mind is the gateway of everything.

Clearing and streamlining input impressions is through kriya and Gnana yoga. This could be done alone.

Clearing and streamlining of output impressions is Bhakthi yoga and karma yoga. For output, we have to do to others.
